Parents and caregivers whose schedules conflict with school times can find a solution close to home with the before- and after-school programs offered by the St. Charles Park District.
Before the Bell begins at 7 a.m. and takes place at Bell Graham, Davis, Ferson Creek and Munhall schools
“Before the Bell is a more quiet and calm start to the day,” said Jaz Lara, recreation supervisor for the park district. “Participants can take part in coloring, board games, crafts and other table time type of activities.”
The program includes a breakfast offering each day, and those students who are not at their home school are picked up and provided transportation courtesy of the St. Charles Community Unit School District 303.
Before the Bell is offered as a three-day or five-day program.
Baker Station is an opportunity for children to have fun in a supervised environment after school. The program takes place at Bell Graham, Davis, Ferson Creek, Fox Ridge, Munhall, Wasco and Wild Rose schools.
“Students enjoy a transition into after-school activities with friends whether they stay at their home school or are transported by District 303 to a different school,” Lara said. “When weather allows, staff take the children outside so they can have some fresh air and play on the playground.”
Kids can also enjoy arts and crafts, board games, active play and a snack time through Baker Station. Options include anywhere from two days to five days a week.
Kids ages 5 to 12 will also have the chance to take part in a No School Day trip to Enchanted Castle in Lombard from 11:340 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 27. Before- and after-care is available for an additional fee.
“The program offers a fun, high-energy outing that helps kids stay active,” Lara added.
The park district is currently on the lookout for Before the Bell site leaders and instructors. Hiring for the 2026-2027 school year will begin in early June.
“It’s a great position for those looking for a rewarding way to begin or end their day,” Lara said.
