Say hello to fall with a unique night out, sipping, sampling and strolling along the Fox River Trail during the Sunset Cider Stroll Friday, September 21. From 5-7pm this adults-only, St. Charles Park District event promotes a social and relaxing night to celebrate the autumn equinox.
The evening will begin by checking in at The Wine Exchange, 1 Illinois St., between 5-6pm. After tasting a few seasonal wine varieties, meander next door to LUX Dance Studio for entertaining demonstrations. Then, begin the 2.25-mile leisurely stroll, heading south along the Bob Leonard Walkway, winding under the Prairie Street bridge and into Mt. St. Mary Park.
Along the way, you’ll have an opportunity to stop and sample four different types of hard cider and seasonal snack items from local businesses such as Kimmer’s Ice Cream and Brunch Café.
“This event allows adults to get some light exercise and see the scenic trails along the Fox River,” said Jen Bruggeman, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation. “We hope it’s a fun night out with adults to enjoy the fall weather and beautiful scenery St. Charles has to offer.”
The stroll is untimed and self-led, but signage and a map will direct participants.
So go at your own pace as you gab with girlfriends, catch up with neighbors or walk hand-in-hand with your spouse. Admire the colorful native plants lining the riverbank and take in the picturesque autumn views up and down the river. Visit the eclectic and inspiring sculptures by local artists in Mt. St. Mary Park, and if you need a break, sit on one of the many benches along the trail, in a pergola or under a canopy of trees to enjoy the peaceful setting.
And once you’ve wound your way through the park and had your share of samples, why go home? Continue the night in downtown St. Charles.
The fee for the Sunset Cider Stroll is $20 for residents by registering at www.stcparks.org; and $30 for nonresidents by registering at https://sunsetciderstroll.eventbrite.com
