It might be easier to mark one’s calendar with days when there’s not something going on at Otter Cove Aquatic Park. From weekly recurring activities such as the “Not So Lazy River Walk” aquatic workouts every Tuesday and Thursday to holiday-themed special events such as the ever-popular “Christmas in July” on Wednesday, July 25, there’s something special for everyone nearly every day of the summer.
There are one-of-a-kind special events for kids such as the popular annual “Splashes, Dashes & Spokes” triathlon of kid-friendly, kid-distanced races for children ages 5 to 15 on Saturday, July 21 from 8-11am. Have a party with Ollie at his birthday bash on Saturday, July 14 from 12-6pm. Celebrate like an islander during the “Splash with Moana” party on July 12 from 3-5pm with beachside fun, stories, songs and games.
Kids of all ages can show off their cannonball skills during the “Biggest Splash Contest” from 7-8pm on Sunday, July 29, or enjoy games and win prizes by participating in games such as relay races and splash contests all day long during “Amazing Monday” on August 6. Take an exclusive tour behind the pool deck every Monday in June at 4pm. Just one of the many “Splish’n Activities” taking place throughout the month of June, these fun, safe activities expand your aquatic knowledge and enhance your visit to Otter Cove Aquatic Park.
Afraid to miss a favorite activity because of vacation trips or other calendar complications? Not to worry. Many popular Otter Cove events happen more than once during the summer. “Mermaid and Pirate Night,” where costumes are encouraged, take place from 6-8pm on Monday, June 18; Wednesday, July 18; and Thursday, August 9. Want to display your artistic talents? Check out “Deck Art Day” from 12-7pm every Thursday in July. Get out of the pool and onto the sand for “Volleyball with a Lifeguard” from 1-1:30pm every Tuesday in June. And speaking of lifeguards, experience the responsibility and skills necessary for this most important of Otter Cove jobs during “Lifeguard for a Day” events from 1-2pm on Wednesday, June 20 and July 11, and from 6-7pm on Wednesday July 11 and Friday, August 3.
While the kids may be happy not to see the inside of a classroom for awhile, they are undoubtedly sad to think they won’t see favorite classmates until September. The “School Trip-n-Dip” outings are the perfect solution to summertime separation anxiety. Each week, a different D303 school is hosted at Otter Cove for a day of water fun, games and a commemorative photo with Ollie the Otter. Check the Otter Cove web site at www.ottercove.org for the full schedule to see when your school is on deck.
School children aren’t the only special guests at Otter Cove. Dads get the treat of free admission for Father’s Day on Sunday, June 17, and adults over 60 can celebrate “National Senior Citizens Day” on Tuesday, August 21 with a free soft drink from The Dive. Season pass holders can enjoy one full hour of early admission during the Exclusive VIP Party beginning at 10am on Thursday, August 9.
