New Primrose Farm Offerings
Warm summer evenings on the farm may conjure images of St. Charles’ past, but this idyllic scene is very much available to modern-day community members.
Primrose Farm, a facility of the St. Charles Park District, is hosting its first-ever Summer Night Series, with three opportunities for all to enjoy some of life’s simplest pleasures.
“In the evening is when the fireflies come out and when we have the most gorgeous sunsets. It is a very peaceful time at the farm and I don’t think that enough people get to experience it,” said Patty Kennedy, farm program supervisor. “I just wanted an excuse to get people out for a nice summer celebration.”
The first of the three Friday evening offerings takes place June 13, with those in attendance able to roast hot dogs over a fire. An ice cream social will take place on July 11, while visitors can feast on roasted corn on the cob and watermelon on August 8. Events take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
“These themes were chosen because they represent summer,” Kennedy said. “It’s a chance to enjoy a bit of the rural life in the suburbs.”
Additionally, those who join in the old-fashioned fun will have the opportunity to take in the scenic landscapes of Primrose with a wagon ride along the trails. Trails throughout the farm travel more than 2 miles.
“I think that the farm atmosphere and uniqueness of the events will appeal to the community,” Kennedy added. “It will be simple and relaxing.”
Advance registration is required for the Summer Night Series. The cost for each is $12 per person.
Free to all, Primrose Farm is an interactive living history farm open daily from dawn until dusk The farm is home to a number of animals including cows, sheep, horses, goats, chickens, and even miniature donkeys.
