What motivates you to stay active? Playing team sports with friends outside? Participating in a group class? Or maybe a little friendly competition? No matter what your reason, the St. Charles Park District has you covered with several new adult fitness programs and leagues to keep you on track all summer long.
If competition among peers keeps you moving, sign-up for Norris Recreation Center’s No Regrets Challenge. This members-only, free exercise competition will keep you engaged in fitness throughout the summer months.
From Monday, June 10, to Saturday, August 24, members will log their exercise minutes, and the top three will win prizes. Any exercise inside Norris, as well as outside on your own, counts toward your total. You’ll also see how you compare to other competitors, as a leaderboard will post scores – just the motivation to keep you going.
Register for No Regrets at the Norris Membership Services Desk.
As the temperature rises, so does the desire to soak up every minute outside – even during your workouts. The new Outdoor Bootcamp at Norris will challenge your body while performing exercises outside. Led by a professional staff member, you’ll do pushups, burpees, walking lunges and other bodyweight exercises to get your heart rate up and stay fit.
“We want residents and members to stay active all summer long, and this program allows participants to maintain their fitness goals while enjoying the nice weather,” said Ande Masoncup, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation.
Outdoor Bootcamp meets from 10:30-11:25am on Tuesdays, from June 11-July 30. The fee is $80 for members and $120 for nonmembers.
Get an extra boost to stay healthy by attending the Know Your Numbers seminar at Norris at 6pm Thursday, June 13. During this presentation you’ll learn the importance of knowing your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, what they mean and how it corresponds to your overall health.
Members are free. The fee for nonmembers is $10.
Other options for outdoor activities include the new Adult Bags and Sand Volleyball leagues. Both are perfect for playing with friends or making new friendships and enjoying the camaraderie.
The Co-ed Sand Volleyball league will meet weekly on Sundays from June 9-July 21, at East Side Sports Complex. The games are 6-on-6 and require two girls to be on the court at all times.
The Adult Bags league offers a more laid-back team experience. Every Monday night from June 10-July 22, teams of two will compete in a set of three games. The season will end with a tournament.
“The bags league is great for someone who wants to socialize and play a fun, backyard game in a less competitive environment than other leagues,” said Megan Hatheway, Athletic Supervisor.
The fee for team registration is $50. Individual registration is $25.
