Calling all sports fanatics to kick, throw, run, bounce and have fun during the Sports Showcase from 1-4pm Sunday, January 6, at Sportsplex, 1400 Foundry St. in St. Charles.
This free event will keep your children busy with interactive sports demonstrations as well as a bouncy house to get all that indoor winter energy out. Prize drawings and giveaways will take place as well as tours of the newly renovated Park District facility.
Families can browse the many vendor booths to learn more about various
park district partner organizations including Chicago Soccer Academy, Sports Performance Academy Kale Training, St. Charles Rowing Club, Tri-Cities Soccer Association, River City Lacrosse, Lil’ Kickers, Jelly Bean Sports and All Star Sports Instruction.
“There are so many sports organizations in town that many people don’t know about,” said Melissa Caine, Sportsplex Assistant Superintendent. “This event gives us the chance to introduce these groups and for residents to see what the Park District has to offer.”
But this free event won’t be all talk and no action. Coaches will keep children moving with sports instruction, allowing all ages to experience kicking a soccer ball, handling a lacrosse stick and batting a wiffle ball. Children also can test their agility and speed at flag football and dodgeball.
“Where else can you have your child try out multiple sports in one afternoon?” Caine said. “This experience not only allows them to have fun and be physically active, but helps families make decisions about what sports to pursue in the future.”
Before leaving, don’t miss the opportunity to take a tour of the recently renovated 62,500-square-foot facility, purchased last spring by the park district to increase its indoor recreational programming.
Some changes are obvious and include updating the lobby; replacing the flooring on the first level and countertops in the front desk area; and creating a multi-purpose room and new room for the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association. Other renovations are hidden to the eye but just as important, such as replacing the heating and cooling systems.
Sportsplex is available for rentals and birthday party packages. The complex has two turf fields with spectator seating, a concession and seating area in the lobby.
