If you prefer working out with friends but also want the benefits of personal training, sign-up for Small Group Training at Pottawatomie Community Center in St. Charles.
This new, bootcamp-style program will challenge your body but not your wallet, as you meet personal fitness goals on your schedule, with your buddies.
“Small group training allows you to keep costs down and have fun with your friends while getting your body and mind fit,” said Lara Piner, Pottawatomie Supervisor.
“Participants are also getting the accountability and camaraderie they may not have working out individually in a gym setting.”
For ages 16 and older, Small Group Training includes eight sessions of one hour each for 3 to 5 people. Schedules are flexible to meet all needs from parents and retirees who prefer a daytime routine, to coworkers and high school students looking for an evening workout.
The trainer will design a program for the group, but don’t worry if you and your friends aren’t at the same fitness level. Each program will have the ability to modify intensity levels based on individual health goals.
Since Pottawatomie doesn’t have a fitness center, creativity will be key. While trainers will lead exercises inside with traditional equipment such as weights, balls and body bars, they will also utilize the park’s expansive outdoor space. Workouts could include increasing cardiovascular endurance while running the stairs in the pavilion tower overlooking the river; strengthening core muscles while climbing the concrete steps on the east side; or toning your upper body using the chest press and other outdoor exercise equipment by Gaffney Ball Field. And whether inside or out in the fresh air, trainers will keep you motivated and on task.
“It’s definitely not training where someone will put you on a treadmill for 30 minutes,” Piner said. “We’d like to take advantage of the weather and the park to keep the workouts fun and exciting.”
The fee for eight sessions is based on group size. For groups of three people, the fee is $20 per person, per class; four people, $15 per person, per class; and five people, $12 per person, per class.
