Children who need their dodgeball and sports fix, should head over to Sportsplex this summer to get all their athletic needs met. Offering a variety of dodgeball events and sports camps, your child will reap the benefits of participating in a variety of sports activities and instruction.
Kids who regularly attended the Dodgeball at Dusk at Pottawatomie Community Center during the school year, will jump for joy knowing Sportsplex is continuing this popular weekly competition every Friday this summer.
Friday Night Dodgeball at Sportsplex is for kids entering grades 6-8 and will be held from 6-8pm July 12, 19, 26, and August 2. The fee is $10 per person.
Younger children wanting to get on the dodgeball action, can sign-up for the Chuck and Duck Dodgeball Tournament Friday, June 28. This one-time event will start at 5pm, and will consist of 6-8 players on a team in three age categories: 8-10; 10-12; and 12-14. The cost is $24 per player. Each player registers individually. The Park District’s partner organization All Star Sports will run the tournament.
“Dodgeball is less organized than some sports which appeals to many kids, but it’s also structured, especially in a tournament setting, allowing for physical activity, socializing and having fun,” said Cayla Greenfield, Sportsplex Supervisor.
In addition to dodgeball, Sportsplex provides a variety of weekly sports camps throughout the summer.
Sports of All Sorts, for children in grades 1-6, will be held weekly from 8:30am-3:30pm. All Star Sports will lead the camp in the morning, offering instruction and coaching on a variety of sports. Then, Sportsplex staff will take the kids on field trips in the afternoon. A schedule of outings will be available after you register your child.
Campers can bring their own lunch or purchase from the Sportsplex concession stand for $5 a day.
“Sports positively influences all children in more ways than just the physical,” Greenfield said. “It has multiple benefits including mental health, socialization, confidence and teamwork.”
For younger children seeking a camp shorter in length, sign-up for Multi-Sports Camp, Monday-Friday July 15-19. Ages 4-5 will meet from 12:30-2pm and ages 6-8 will meet from 2-4pm to learn teamwork and sportsmanship while participating in a variety of different sports activities.
Additionally, Sportsplex has summer programs for Frisbee and flag football enthusiasts.
The Ultimate Frisbee Camp is from 1-3pm Monday-Friday, July 22-26 for ages 9-11. Whether your child is new to the sport or wants to hone in on their skills, the camp will provide fun instruction and games throughout the week.
Flag Football Skills is an 8-week class from 6:15-7:15pm on Tuesdays, June 11-July 30, for ages 7-10. The class will improve skills and knowledge of the game through drills, footwork and games.
