Let your child explore their creative side and love for science, art and even dance this summer with the St. Charles Park District’s Specialty Camps.
“It’s really cool how camps are bringing more people to the arts,” said Alex Weidner, aquatics and youth programs supervisor.
Along with traditional day camp programming, the St. Charles Park District offers more than a dozen camps that range from single-day programs to multi-week options where children can explore a new hobby, a passion for science or even a chance to get their hands on some clay creations.
“With these camps you can really focus on your special interests,” Weidner said.
She and her team cultivated an array of classes, much of it based on ongoing interest from programs throughout the year, as well as some brand new offerings.
“We like to do what’s building in interest and we also try to stay ahead of the curve and offer new classes that we think will be trending,” Weidner said.
The continued popularity of Minecraft is the reason behind Mineceraft Engineering Camp where children can learn how to improve their game experience as they build bridges and town layouts. At Secret Agent Lab Camp children will use gadgets and forensic science to solve a mystery.
A budding actor will enjoy the Summer Theatre Immersion Camp while children as young as three can tap their toes in the single-day Try Everything Mini Dance Camp.
In addition to pursuing an interest, participants will have a chance to meet other students who share a love for the subject.
“It’s such a nice outlet to a busy summer,” Weidner said.
With the variety of courses, there’s something for everyone’s summer schedule.
New this year is a partnership with the park district and All Things Art Studio in St. Charles which is offering camps to explore different art mediums including weaving, printmaking and even clay creations.
“These classes really open up the world of art,” Weidner said.
Space is limited and advance registration is required. See the summer camp brochure or check out the park district website for a full list of available camps.
