Trips expanded to ages 11-15 through STC Underground partnership
When school’s out, the St. Charles Park District is in.
During spring break and other “no school” days, the park district offers options for children of working parents. From field trips to a “staycation” camp, children will be entertained all day with fun, structured activities.
This year Pottawatomie Community Center, which runs the “no school” day trips, has partnered with the STC Underground Teen Center to expand the ages to include teens up to 15 years old. Children ages 5-12 and the new age group of 11-15 will visit the same attraction, but there will be different staff for each group, according to Taylor Krawczyk, program supervisor.
“This partnership with STC Underground gives parents another option for their teens, knowing they are safe and engaged in fun activities with their peers,” Krawczyk said.
Each age group also will take separate transportation. While ages 5-12 will depart and return to Pottawatomie Community Center, ages 11-15 will begin and end their trip at STC Underground.
Favorite trips will be offered again including Shedd Aquarium, Feb. 28, and Brookfield Zoo, March 31, but new this year are trips to The Zone, April 1, and Topgolf, April 2.
The Zone, located in Mt. Prospect, is the River Trails Park District’s newly renovated facility complete with foam pit, climbing wall, warp wall and climbing ropes.
And TopGolf in Naperville gives children an opportunity to practice their swing or experience golf for the first time in a nontraditional setting.
Times and fees for the trips vary. Visit www.stcparks.org to learn more.
For children ages 5-12 participating in the day trips, Pottawatomie offers before and after care from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an additional fee.
Another option for children ages 5-12 during Spring Break is the Ultimate Staycation at Pottawatomie Community Center. This all-day camp will follow a different theme each day, filled with games, crafts and other activities.
This year the themes include various vacation destinations. They are: New York, New York March 30; My Kind of Town, Chicago March 31; Jamaican Me Crazy April 1; Cruisin’ Around April 2; and Beach Bash April 3.
The camp runs from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. but parents are free to drop off or pick up at times convenient to their schedule. The fee is $220 per child for all five days or $44 per day, per child.
