No school doesn’t mean no fun for children with working parents as the St. Charles Park District offers field trips on Columbus Day and over Thanksgiving break.
These “no school” field trips are for children ages 5-12 to provide an alternative activity outside Pottawatomie Community Center, where care is offered for those enrolled in Baker Station. While any child can attend the field trips for a fee, those who are a 5-day Baker Station participant receive a discount. All trips depart and leave from the center via bus.
“When planning these trips we try to provide a variety of destinations so there’s something for everyone,” said Taylor Krawczyk, Recreation Supervisor. “The trips give children a chance to explore, learn and have fun outside Baker Station. We encourage all parents to check out the options and see what peaks their child’s interest.”
One option is Richardson Adventure Farm set for Columbus Day, Oct. 14. This annual outing to the Spring Grove pumpkin farm is the park district’s most popular trip. Children will have the opportunity to engage in all types of fall activities including a corn maze, wagon rides, carousal, train ride, pumpkin patch and more. All children will leave with a pumpkin. Dress for the weather and bring a sack lunch.
The next outing is perfect for children who love building and playing with Legos. And during the Robotics Pizza Party Nov. 25, they can take their Lego creations to the next level. At Sylvan Learning Center in St. Charles from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. children will build Lego robots and learn how to program and manipulate those using gears, motors and sensors. Pizza will be provided for children during this trip.
Children who imagine themselves as ninja warriors won’t want to miss the second trip offered over Thanksgiving Break Nov. 26. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Windy City Ninja in Elmhurst, children can test their strength, endurance and agility, climbing walls, dashing through obstacles and swinging from ropes, just like in the show, “American Ninja Warrior.” Bring a sack lunch and a clean pair of gym shoes.
The park district also will offer Before and After Care at Pottawatomie from 6:30am-6pm. The fee is $15 each day.
