While children may jump for joy when the calendar says “no school,” it presents a dilemma for working parents on where to find childcare during those days off.
Fortunately, the St. Charles Park District provides options for working parents, including three days of field trips during the upcoming Thanksgiving Break.
Interactive adventures are in store for children ages 5-12 who register for the No School Day Trips Monday, November 19, Tuesday, November 20, and/or Wednesday, November 21.
Chaparoned by Baker Station staff, children will depart and return on a school bus from Pottawatomie Community Center in St. Charles.
The week will kick off with a trip to Brookfield Zoo from 9am-5pm Monday, November 19. Dress your child for the weather as they will visit animals inside and out throughout the day.
The next day, Tuesday, November 20, children will visit two locations during their time away from 10am-5pm. They’ll start the day at Luigi’s Pizza in Aurora to make and enjoy their own pizza and play laser tag. Then, the group will head to the nearby Aurora Skate Center to roller skate the remainder of the afternoon.
Then on Wednesday, November 21, from 9am-5pm children will explore the wonders of the sea at the Shedd Aquariumn in Chicago.
“These trips are really fun for kids. The experience keeps them active and allows them to be engaged and learn about the world around them,” said Taylor Krawczyk, Recreation Supervisor. She said the activities over Thanksgiving were chosen based on program surveys as well as gauging the interests of children currently enrolled in Baker Station.
The park district also will offer Before and After Care at Pottawatomie from 6:30am-6pm. The fee is $15 each day.
No School Day Trips are offered to all children at a fee, but those currently enrolled in the 5-day Baker Station program receive a discount. For fees and to register, visit www.stcparks.org. For more information, contact Taylor Krawczyk at 630-513-4331.
