Enjoy some special time with your child with the St. Charles Park District’s Nature Nights at the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center.
The events are designed for daddy-daughter or mother-son events with a unique opportunity for family time while maintaining Covid-19 safety measures.
“It’s a great way to get individual time with a child and make it a special evening,” said Laura McCoy, nature education program supervisor for the St. Charles Park District.
McCoy, also a parent, said she knows learning is always more fun when it seems like a fun game. She and her team have designed programs that will engage children and their parents. Participants will have a chance to interact with the center’s animal ambassadors including a very special surprise critter visit.
As a former teacher, McCoy said she’s found her dream job developing programs that teach children about the animals and their habitats that exist in the St. Charles community.
“I love sneaking in learning in a fun manner,” McCoy said.
McCoy said especially this year, as we spend more time outside and in our own backyard these programs can help our children make the connections between their own homes and the wildlife in our area.
“What we’ve seen in a movie or read in a book becomes much more tangible when we realize it also exists in our own backyard,” McCoy said.
In following with Covid-19 health protection each participant is required to wear a mask. The park district will be limited the number of participants. Advance registration is required. Rather than enjoying a snack during the activity, each participant will receive their own individual treat to take home and enjoy.
