The sun has set on summer, but autumn offers plenty of activities, not least of which is a round at Pottawatomie Golf Course.
“Nature’s colors stand out the most when it comes to fall golf in our area, and Pottawatomie is located on a wonderful piece of land with tree-lined fairways and the scenic Fox River,” said Bill Ogiego, assistant golf manager for the St. Charles Park District-owned course.
Those who play in the off-season not only get to enjoy the reds, oranges and golds of the leaves overhead or the fact that a wide variety of birds can be spotted around the course and along the river’s waters—Pottawatomie has long enjoyed its designation as an Audubon sanctuary—but lower rates as well.
Daily green fees from now through the course’s closing day are $18 for nine holes, $17 for twilight golf and $12 for spectators.
Weather pending, the course stays open until December 23.
“That’s later than most of the courses in the area,” said Ogiego, adding that playing a round is a great way for individuals to stay active and “get their steps in” as the season gets colder.
When the course closes for winter, it’s a chance to head indoors and check out the facility’s Foresight GCQuad Launch Simulator. This simulator collects data on ball and swing speed along with other information that can help individuals learn more about their strengths and where they can improve their technique.
“Obviously in this area we do not get to play all year round; those months when the temperatures and conditions outside are not conducive for golf, indoor simulators keep us active and hopeful for the next golf season,” Ogiego said.
Another perk of the simulator is its ability to transport players to world-renowned courses around the world. Among some of the favorites are Pebble Beach and Spyglass in California and St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland, among many others.
The simulator is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is $35 an hour. Reservations may be taken up to seven days in advance. To learn more about the simulator, call 630-584-8356.
