Add variety to your workout routine with two new fitness events at Primrose Farm on Saturday, April 20. The Farm Fitness Relay and Goat Yoga will stretch your routine in ways that are exciting, challenging and fun.
During the Fitness Relay from 10:30am-2pm, you’ll get your cardio fix, strengthen your muscles and work up a sweat. Instead of using traditional gym equipment, you’ll carry bales of hay, pull pallets of feed, race with wheel barrels, flip tractor tires and engage in other farm-themed obstacles.
The relay, which will take place on the 1.25-mile course along the Primrose hiking trail is for ages 5-65, and as such, will have options at each station for every fitness level. For example, there will be 20 and 50 pound bags of feed available to pull. “We’ll be accommodating to all fitness goals,” said Emily Lambillotte, Farm Program Supervisor.
To ensure everyone will use the farm equipment safely, Lambillotte said at 10:30am they will conduct safety training, including an opportunity to practice lifting and pulling the equipment properly.
While the relay may take 30-60 minutes to complete, Lambillotte stressed it is not a competition.
“We want participants to have a fun time, engaging in new and different ways to exercise,” she said. “Not everyone likes to run on the treadmill or lift weights, and this event shows residents that there are other ways to get your heart rate up and have fun while working out.”
After you’ve completed the relay, Primrose will have healthy snacks and drinks in the bonfire area.
The fee is $15 for residents and $23 for nonresidents. Advanced registration is required.
Prior to the relay, you can start your morning with Goat Yoga, from 8:30-9:30am. With goats and baby lambs roaming near, you can practice your yoga moves in the peaceful setting of the farm. ”Incorporating goats into yoga gives your mind a mental health break,” said Lambillotte, who will lead the class. “It’s animal therapy mixed with yoga.”
The fee for Goat Yoga is $7 for residents and $11 for nonresidents. If you sign up for the Farm Fitness Relay and Goat Yoga, you’ll receive a discounted rate. Register in advance at www.stcpark.org.
