Mt. St. Mary Park Arboretum Mission Statement & Goals
To further the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of trees and complementary plantings in the landscape.
- To provide a community resource for the identification of native and non-native trees and complementary plantings suitable for the soil and climate of northern Illinois.
- To increase suitable wildlife habitat along the Fox River
- To enhance visitors’ park experiences
- To enrich the community’s quality of life
- To promote wise stewardship of the natural environment
- To deepen appreciation of the importance & beauty of landscape diversity
Description
The Arboretum is located on several acres at Mt. St. Mary Park. Initially, the Arboretum will consist of trees. As the St. Charles Park District continues to develop the Arboretum, shrubs and ground covers will be added to demonstrate appropriate underplanting for trees.
